A Gentle Introduction to Reishi

Reishi has a long history of traditional use, and a modern reputation that sometimes runs ahead of the evidence. It is worth meeting it plainly.
It is a woody, bitter mushroom. That bitterness is part of its character, not a fault of the batch, and it is why reishi has traditionally been simmered into a decoction rather than steeped like tea.
Most people today use a powder or an extract. Powders keep more of the whole mushroom; extracts concentrate particular fractions. Neither is automatically better — they simply suit different habits.
Start small. Half a teaspoon in a hot drink is enough to see how you feel about the taste and how it fits your evening.
As with any wellness product, it works best as part of a wider pattern of eating, sleeping and moving well — not as a substitute for one.
