The Quiet Power of Everyday Herbs

There is a temptation, when you first become interested in herbs, to reach for the rare and the exotic. Usually the better place to start is the shelf you already own.
Chamomile, lemon balm and mint have been used across cultures for centuries, largely because they are forgiving. They are pleasant to drink, easy to grow, and gentle enough to become a daily habit.
A habit is the point. The value of a nightly cup of chamomile has as much to do with the fifteen minutes it asks of you as it does with the flowers themselves.
Learn one plant properly before adding the next. Notice how it smells dried versus fresh, how long it wants to steep, how you feel afterwards.
That kind of attention is the foundation of everything else in herbalism.
